GfK has just released a white paper on using postal boundaries in risk management. Postcodes are an ideal basis for organizing and analyzing the immense amount of information associated with risk management. This approach allows reinsurers to see, at a glance, how their portfolios and risk profiles stack up from region to region.
Geodata makes it possible to yoke together the vast quantities of infor-mation with which the reinsurance industry must contend. Previously hid-den trends and relationships between premiums, loss sums, past claims, insured values, damage probabilities and other variables become visible when this information is linked and displayed geographically.
For decades, GfK has worked closely with key players in the reinsurance industry, including risk modelers and reinsurance companies. Drawing on this understanding of the needs of the industry, GfK compiled a white paper on how to use geodata such as digital postcode boundaries to en-hance risk analyses and models. Boundary data is highly valuable in the context of risk analyses, because it allows users to carry out highly localized analyses and risk scenarios as well as overarching comparisons of multiple markets in the context of risk reporting and accumulation controlling.
